The FIVB senior world rankings for men are out and Uganda has shot up to 66th in the world and seventh on the African continent.

Tunisia is the top-ranked African team at 14, followed by Egypt 19, Cameroon 25, Morocco 39, Kenya 61, Algeria 65, Uganda 66, DRC 67, Burundi 70, Rwanda 71, and round out the top 10.
Uganda has moved up the world rankings from 116th in the world to 66th, a rise that can be attributed to their performance in the African Nations Championship in Rwanda.
“This is just an encouragement to the federation to put in more effort because if we are in the top seven it’s possible that we can break into the top five. For us, that is now our next target. We work so hard and break into those brackets,” UVF technical director Tony Lakony said.
Being amongst the top five countries on the continent is a serious target because it increases a team’s chances of winning a medal at the continental level.
“This is a foundation of course if you see in Africa we are number 7. This year we have the African Nations Challenge sometime in July which is an Open nation’s championship,” he explained.
UVF may take the national teams depending on where it’s staged.
The idea of breaking into the top teams in the world could make the difference in terms of getting more professional players because now the scouts are watching Uganda. The world rankings are led by Brazil, Poland and Russia. The three teams round out the top three positions in the world.
